With its rainforested mountain backdrop, you’ll be delighted to have a free day to explore this beautiful island – there’s a reason it’s known as the Pearl of the Andaman Sea. Opt to spend your time exploring, stopping for coffee in quirky cafés, picking up souvenirs from local art galleries or just unwinding in the sunshine. Or perhaps head out to one of the nearby islands for a spot of beach lazing and snorkelling amid technicolour reefs; full-day speedboat tours to Coral and Racha islands, or Rok and Haa islands, are great options.
If you didn’t have time to work on your tan in Phuket, then the white-sand beaches of Krabi will no doubt entice you into a laid-back silica session. And if you start to get too hot – no problem, just jump into the crystal-clear waters. If you prefer your holidays a bit more active, there’s the option to go kayaking amid the mangroves of Ao Thalane, or explore the rock caves and secret lagoons of Railay Beach.
Koh Phi Phi
The burden of beauty weighs heavy in Koh Phi Phi. With soaring limestone karsts, rising from the ocean like dragon’s teeth, these islands are nothing short of stunning, especially when the sun reflects of the impossibly blue waters. Spend your time here getting lost in the town’s backstreets, or hunting for souvenirs. Make time to visit the iconic Maya Bay too, made famous by 2000 Leonardo DiCaprio movie, The Beach. Finish your time here with a farewell dinner, reminiscing over the week and swapping contact details with your new-found friends.
