Your Example Itinerary
Fly from the UK to Los Angeles and check in to your hotel.
Spot the stars in glitzy Los Angeles, pose with the Hollywood sign and go behind the scenes of your favourite movie at Universal Studios. Mix the cuisine of Chinatown, the clubs of Koreatown and shopping Downtown with lazy days and beautiful people on Venice Beach. Perhaps overshadowed by Tinseltown, there are some worthwhile museums here too, with The Getty Center and its pretty ocean views and art exhibits a good place to start, as well as the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.
4* Andaz West Hollywood
Fly from Los Angeles to Auckland.
Fly from Los Angeles to Auckland.
Explore the sights of Auckland, a multicultural city known as the ‘City of Sails’ after its charming harbour and diverse maritime history. Explore the many volcanoes – Auckland is even built on lava flows – and check out the many museums and galleries. Stroll around the heritage houses of Parnell, the city’s oldest suburb, or head out on to the Hauraki Gulf and rub shoulders with the artists and millionaires who inhabit blissful Waiheke Island. Perhaps have dinner at Orbit 360°, a relaxed brasserie found 190m up at the top of the Sky Tower. The dining room rotates once an hour allowing for sensational panoramic city and harbour views.
Learn about Maori culture on a traditional village tour in Rotorua, a thermal wonderland filled with lakes, steaming pools, hot springs and geysers. The whiff is sulphur is never too far away here, giving the town the nickname ‘Sulphur City’.It’s not just about the geology however, as the town boasts 18 sparkling lakes, various luging tracks, mountain bike trails and lakeside walking pathways. Unsurprisingly, there are a number of spas to choose from – try the art deco style Blue Baths, whose fresh, geothermally-heated waters were originally opened to bathers in 1933.
4.5* Millennium Rotorua Hotel
Admire the views in stunning Lake Taupo, surrounded by snow-dusted mountains and verdant forests. Lake Taupo sits in a volcanic caldea, and although it hasn’t erupted for nearly 2000 years, is still active and creates hot spots in the lake. There’s a long list of white knuckle sports here, such as sky diving, jet boating and white water rafting, but for those looking for something a little more sedate, lake strolls, fishing, bike riding and scenery-admiring work just as well. Nearby Huka Falls, a raging torrent 11 metres high, is well worth a visit too.
5* Hilton Taupo
Check out Wellington’s world-class museums, including the national museum Te Papa. Ringed by mountains and with a pretty harbour, Wellington is also a good spot for a relaxing stroll. For fabulous panoramic views of the city, ascend 196 metres to the top of the Mount Victoria Lookout, or take the 110-year-old Wellington Cable Car Cable Car up to the Kelburn Lookout, right by the beautiful Botanic Gardens. Here you can walk through 26 hectares of flowerbeds and forests, as well as a Victorian-style glasshouse and a colourful rose garden.
4* Novotel Wellington
Take the ferry to the South Island and stay overnight in Blenheim, in the heart of the Marlborough wine growing region and one of New Zealand’s sunniest towns. With over 65 wineries and 4000 hectares of vines, Marlborough is a great place to sample the local wines. Specialities include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer. It’s not just about the wine though – there are some great locally-grown food products too. Wear all that off with a lovely walk in the forests and hills, or perhaps hire a bike and explore a bit further.
Call in at Kaikoura, where the waters are rich in nutrients, attracting whales, dusky dolphins, hectors dolphin, New Zealand fur seals and albatrosses, to name a few. Head out to sea on a whale-watching cruise and see what you can spot – look out for the huge tails and dorsal fins of the sperm whales, which can grow up to 20 metres long. After that, continue on to Christchurch, a pretty town with a distinct English feel where you’ll spend the night.
Take the TransAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth, pick up your car, and drive to Franz Josef. One of New Zealand’s most visited natural wonders, the Franz Josef Glacier is a creeping mass of twisted ice formations covered in crevasses, pools and rivets. Admire its frozen face from your helicopter, then touch down high up on the glacier and hike among pristine scenery. Gaze out at the sweeping mountain views and don’t forget to look down at the ice to discover sub-zero pools and streams of brilliant blue. Afterwards, relax and unwind in the tranquil Glacier Hot Pools, surrounded by rainforest.
4* Franz Alpine Retreat
Cruise Milford Sound, a spectacular sheer-sided fjord surrounded by waterfalls, from Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of New Zealand. Milford Sound is a real must-see, and with its dramatic cliffs, plunging waterfalls and exquisite mountain scenery, it’s an area best savoured on a relaxing boat trip. Queenstown itself is also incredibly scenic, with views of the Remarkables across Lake Wakatipu. Soak up the views from the top of Bob’s Peak at the end of the Skyline Gondola or just take a stroll along the lakeshore.
5* Peppers Beacon Hotel
Fly on to Auckland and relax in your airport hotel before heading on to Fiji. Perhaps take the opportunity to sample some New Zealand wines, or hit the shops for some last-minute souvenirs.
4.5* Jet Pack Airport Hotel
Arrive in Fiji and head for the Coral Coast, an 80-kilometre stretch of beach and offshore coral between Nadi and the capital, Suva. Laze on golden sands, swim in blue lagoons and watch the sunset with a cocktail in this idyllic island location. Head to the pretty riverside town of Sigatoka and cruise your way up the Sigatoka River, taking in traditional Fijian villages and lush plant and animal life along the way.
4* The Naviti Resort
Finish your Journey on a relaxing note as you swim in the warm waters of Mana Island, a tropical paradise surrounded by white sandy beaches and pretty palm trees. Mana is a great place for diving, and strangely enough, a night snorkel under the bright lights of the wharf is a great way to see the fish, who are attracted to the light. Try out some water sports such as windsurfing or kayaking, or perhaps parasailing or banana boating over the impossibly blue waters. After all that, hit the spa in your hotel and luxuriate with a treatment or two.
4* Mana Island Resort & Spa
Depart Mana Island and return to the UK.
