Your Example Itinerary
Fly from the UK to Denpasar
Transfer to Sanur, Bali’s original resort town, combining a buzzing holiday atmosphere with beach bum chill. Adrenaline junkies won’t be stuck for a thrill, with diving, surfing, paragliding and kitesurfing all on offer. Get back to nature with a visit to the nearby mangrove forest or the Serangan Island Turtle Conservation and Education Centre. Then watch the sun set over Sanur Beach before sampling local flavours at the night market.
4* Puri Santrian
Meet the rest of your group and its leader at the designated meeting point and transfer to Amed, a place of forested mountains and rice terraces. Your leader will show you around Tenganan Village, where you can learn about Balinese culture, as well as the royal water palace at Tirta Gangga, which boasts pretty fountains and beautiful tropical gardens. Later, head to the coast and your hotel for the night, where you’ve just got time for a dip in the pool or a snorkelling session. Join the rest of your group for a Balinese-style welcome dinner.
After a morning dip in the pool, jump on board your ship, the 4-passenger Ombak Putih or the 12-passenger Katharina. You’ll set straight off for a snorkel on the local reefs before the captain raises the anchor and you’ll sail east across the Lombok Strait to Sumbawa. Enjoy lunch on board, relax on deck and settle into life on the ocean. In the evening, sunset drinks will be served on the ship’s back deck.
Wake up just off the coast of Kenawa Island, a white sand island in West Sumbawa. You’ll have some time here to snorkel, paddle board and swim, or simply laze on the soft sandy beaches. After lunch sail on to Bungin Island, famous for its stilt houses, balancing above the water. Visit the second largest Bajau settlement in Indonesia and lean how the people here live entirely off the sea. Later on, set sail for Moyo Island.
Moored just off Moyo Island, you’ll head to shore to visit Labuan Aji Village and walk to the pretty Diwu Mba’I waterfall, where you can swing on a rope and jump into the crystal clear pool (and very deep) below. Later, stop at Satonda, a volcanic island whose crater lake is full of saltwater from a tsunami in 1815. Walk to the rim of the caldera to see the lake, and spend the afternoon snorkelling among the corals. In the evening, watch the flying foxes fill the night sky.
After breakfast, head to shore at Pulau Sangean, an active volcano at 1,800m above sea level. Visit a small village, and see the buffaloes swimming in the sea. Watch the local boat builders, who built the vessel you’re sleeping on, in action, and snorkel the nearby reef to admire the colourful corals. Later, sail on to the island of Banta, where you’ll find a gorgeous white sand beach and plenty of snorkelling, swimming and hill climbing opportunities, the set sail for Komodo.
Anchoring just off Komodo Island, transfer to shore and visit a ranger station at Komodo National Park. Here, the ranger will take you in search of the famous Komodo dragon, a giant lizard. You might also see deer, wild boar, cockatoos, butterflies, orchids and jungle chickens along the way. Back on board your boat, sail around the coast to Komodo Village, where you can pick up some souvenirs, and Pantai Merah, a red sand beach. Later, snorkel with manta rays at Makassar Reef and watch the sunset at Gili Lawa Darat.
Head for Rinca Island for another ranger trek, giving you a second chance to spot a Komodo dragon or two. You may also see monkeys, deer and buffaloes here. In the afternoon, snorkel off the coast of Siaba Island, and perhaps drop by Kelor Island too. In the evening, head to shore at an uninhabited island for a beach barbecue with the rest of your group. There’s usually plenty of singing and dancing from the crew too!
There’s just time for a last swimming or snorkelling session before cruising back to Labuan Bajo harbour, where you’ll visit Melo village to watch a traditional Caci, a fight with whips and shields set to music. After lunch on the boat, transfer to your Labuan Bajo hotel on the island of Flores. You’ll have two days here, so spend your time diving, snorkelling, and exploring the beaches and caves. If you like, in the evening, head to Kalong Island to see the flying foxes.
5* AYANA Komodo
Depart Labuan Bajo and return to the UK
