Your Example Itinerary
Fly from the UK to Quito
Gateway to Ecuador and the world’s closest capital city to the equator, Quito sits high and proud at a lofty 2,850m, surrounded by the mystical Andes Mountains. Spend your time here exploring the diverse neighbourhoods of the city, including the historic centre – one of the best preserved in the Americas. Your city tour will take in attractions like Independence Plaza, the Presidential Palace, La Basilica Church and San Francisco Square, not forgetting a visit to the Middle of the World!
4* Reina Isabel Hotel (or similar)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before heading to the mountain village of Papallacta, where you’ll experience the steamy, healing waters of the village’s thermal pools and can dine on the local speciality of steamed trout. A well-deserved day to recharge your batteries!
3* Termas Papallacta Hotel (or similar)
Spend the day exploring Cotopaxi National Park where you’ll be surrounded by incredible scenery, including Cotopaxi’s snow-capped peak. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife such as condors, foxes, deer and spectacled bears (to name a few), while you hike in one of the world’s highest volcanoes and take in the amazing views at the Limpiopungo Lagoon.
3* Hacienda Hato Verde (or similar)
Quilotoa - Riobamba
After an early departure, you’ll head to the oh-so-deep Quilotoa Lagoon –which averages a staggering depth of 240m. From a lookout on the crater rim you can take in the vistas of Laguna Quilotoa and its glorious emerald waters, along with the picture-perfect snow-capped peaks of Cotopaxi and Iliniza. From here you’ll continue onto the town of Riobamba, where you will spend the night.
A morning transfer will take you to historic mountain town of Alausi, where you’ll board the famous Devil’s Nose Train before it starts the zig-zagging descent down the precipitous face of the mountain! Sit back and relax with a drink in hand, taking in the surrounding scenery as the train snakes through the narrow gorge of River Chanchán, on its way to the mountain’s base.
4* Hacienda Abraspungo (or similar)
Leaving the Andes behind you’ll travel to Guayaquil – the nation’s main port and access point to the Galapagos – where you’ll spend the day exploring the coastal city, also known as the Pearl of the Pacific. Embark on a walking tour to take in the eclectic mix of colonial and modern architecture.
4* Wyndham Guayaquil Hotel (or similar)
An early start beckons as you fly from Guayaquil to Baltra Island to start your Galapagos adventure. On arrival into Baltra you’ll meet your guide and head off to explore the highlands of Santa Cruz, playground of the Galapagos giant tortoise – the largest living tortoise species in the world weighing up to 250kg! After exploring the highlands and the wildlife that calls it home, you’ll visit one of the island’s lava tunnels – to learn how the Galapagos islands were formed from lava flows millions of years ago – and the Charles Darwin Research Station, which plays a vital role in the conservation of the islands. As your exploration continues, you’ll swap the highlands for the white sands of Tortuga Bay, considered to be the most beautiful stretch of coastline in the Galapagos archipelago and one of the sea turtles’ favourite places to lay their eggs! If you fancy a little kayaking or snorkelling, then this is the perfect spot. Your final day will be spent touring a new island in the archipelago, where you can further immerse yourself in the fascinating wildlife and natural beauty of the Galapagos.
4* Ikala Galapagos Hotel (or similar)
Saying goodbye to the Galapagos, you’ll catch a flight back to Quito and from there a transfer will take you up to the cloud forest conservation reserve of Bellavista, nestled on the misty slopes of the Andean Mountains. Spend the next three days trekking the reserve’s forest trails and exploring the mysterious cloud forest. Discover waterfalls, experience the abundant bird life by joining the morning bird hike, and maybe even spot an olinguito or two!
Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge (or similar)
Depart Bellavista after lunch and head back to Quito, where you’ll spend the final night of your Ecuadorian adventure.
Rincon de Puembo or similar
Transfer to Quito Airport and begin your journey home
