Less than a five-hour flight from the UK, the island of Newfoundland is conveniently close, while still feeling like a new frontier. It makes up part of the province of Newfoundland & Labrador, on Canada's most easterly edge, and boasts a land of rugged coastlines, technicolour towns and untouched isles. A similar size to England, Newfoundland is home to breaching whales, 10,000-year-old icebergs, mountains, fjords and forests. It’s Canada’s road less travelled, despite being so easy to get to; so where better to unleash your inner explorer?
A Newfoundland adventure starts in the charming city of St John's – the most far-flung eastern city in North America. Incredibly colourful and quaint, this miniature metropolis is a melting pot of wildlife, fine dining and creative arts. It is steeped in tradition and authenticity, whilst also emanating that uniquely Canadian energy, warmth and hospitality. Beyond that you'll find miles upon miles of coastal wilderness, calving glaciers and postcard-perfect landscapes.

When to Go to Newfoundland
Newfoundland has something incredible to discover no matter what time you visit. In particular, early summer (May onwards), although still cool, is a great time to visit the capital of St John's. Icebergs can still be seen as late as June here, while whales make their way to the shores of Newfoundland to feed from June right through to late August.
July and August are the most popular months to visit with temperatures reaching as high as 25°C, although it's worth noting they can also dip as low as 12°C. But, as Newfoundlanders say: "There is no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing." The key to any visit here is to bring lots of layers. Visit in October when it's chilly but wonderfully crisp. Newfoundland boasts a short but breathtaking fall foliage season, with colours typically peaking in late September/early October.
