Frequently asked questions

When you think of Oregon, do you think of craft beer and bearded hipsters in Portland, or do you think of open fields of tulips, arid deserts, cascading rivers, small coastal towns, exceptional seafood and delightfully warm springs? The good news is that Oregon is all of these things and much, much more.

There are too many to list here, but here goes – Crater Lake National Park, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm (open from the end of March to the first week in May), Portland’s majestic Japanese Garden, Mount Hood, Tumalo Falls and Toketee Falls, The Alvord Desert, the entire city of Portland and the cute coastal town of Newport, to name a few!

If you’re hoping to get out and do a little hiking and outdoor activities, aim for June to mid-August. Summer is ideal for those keen to make the most of the music festivals and events, while winter can experience heavy rainfall, so be sure to pack your boots and coat.

Visit wineries in Willamette Valley, chase waterfalls, visit rose gardens and tulip farms, surf, camp, stargaze, wander creepy abandoned ghost towns, sample Oregon’s coastal cuisine, visit the aquarium, ski, bar hop your way around Portland, marvel at the turquoise water of Crater Lake, the list goes on and on!

There are plenty of contenders for the best place to stay in Oregon, but we’ve narrowed it down to a few of our faves. Cannon Beach is a top spot for sun-soaked adventures exploring the shoreline, the small city of Bend is punching well above its weight in terms of its culinary offering while Mount Hood is ideal for powder hounds thanks to its perpetually snow-covered peaks. Portland is the capital of cool and Willamette Valley is considered Oregon’s wine region.

It depends on the time of year you plan to travel, but as a rough guide, be sure to pack your hiking gear if you plan to hit the trails, a rain coat for those unexpected sprinkles, sun protection and swimming gear or snow gear, depending on the season!

With over 360 miles of coastline peppered with majestic mountains, lush forests and awe-inspiring desertscapes, Oregon is like Disneyland for nature enthusiasts! Then there’s Portland, the undeniable unofficial capital of all things cool and weird. If you’re looking for a cosmopolitan getaway filled with fantastic food, trendy bars and friendly locals, Portland is your place.
