Known as the Pearl of the Andaman, Phuket is a fusion of jaw-dropping beaches, bright lights and bustling bars. Thailand’s largest island boasts intricately decorated temples, designer boutiques and some of the best restaurants in the country. One of the most popular attractions in Phuket is the Big Buddha, a state that sits atop of Nakkerd Hills with superb views of the island. On a clear day, you can see as far as Phi Phi. Another popular thing to do in Phuket is to explore the renowned streets of Patong, famed also for some of the island’s best nightlife. Further south is Phuket’s second largest beach resort – Karon, which is home to spectacular coral reefs. Spend a day at Kata Noi Beach, or visit Karon Viewpoint for a stunning island panorama.

When to Go to Phuket
While there are three seasons in Thailand, down in Phuket the seasons merge together more, leaving just two; the wet season and the dry season. The dry season takes place from November to May and is regarded as the best time to visit with warm and dry days typically sitting in the thirties (celcius). The wet season from June to October is also consistently warm, while humidity and rain are also common. If you don’t mind the rain, this is also Phuket’s low season and a great time to book a bargain price.
Getting Around Phuket
Public transport in Phuket is limited, so on land a taxi is your best bet. If you know where you’re going, your hotel should easily be able to arrange a taxi or a transfer for you, but, if you want a bit of freedom to explore, flag down a tuk-tuk and agree the price beforehand. Taxis can often be in the form of motorbikes or songthaews (like a pickup truck with a roof and benches in the back). To get out to the islands, you’ll need to join a tour or take a longtail boat ride, a quintessential Thai experience.
