The monsoon season in Koh Phangan generally kicks in from September and stretches into November. During this time, the islands can experience flooding and high wind and are generally best avoided. 

It depends how hard you go at the Full Moon party. Just kidding! There’s plenty of reasons to visit Koh Phangan outside of the monthly boozy beach parties. Generally, three to five days would give you enough time to see the island’s main attractions and zen out on the beach. 

The tropical monsoon climate can generally be divided into three seasons, the monsoon season, which is best avoided, a drier season and a hot season. The dry season is from December through to March and is generally considered peak time for travel. 

Treat yourself to a massage or a Thai spa day, watch the sunset with a drink in hand, learn to cook with a Thai cooking class, don your stretchy pants and hit the Thong Sala Night Market, get kayaking, snorkel, hike – the list is endless!

Thong Sala is home to the main port on Koh Phangan and is considered the main hub of Koh Phangan. Here you’ll find street markets, excellent shopping and a range of restaurants.

If you’re planning on exploring the jungle, you’ll want comfortable hiking boots as well as clothing that will be light and comfortable. If you’re planning on sticking to the beach, sunscreen, a hat, some swimmers and a good book would serve you well.

There are many different options depending on your interest and travel vibe. Late-night revellers, sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts will be drawn to HaadRin, Baan Tai and Baan Kai. Those who prefer beaches a little less crowded should head to the Srithanu, Haad Chao Phao and Haad Yao where relaxation is high on the agenda.
