Sultry samba beats and untamed beauty

Whether you take an Amazonian jungle trek, a hike in the Argentine Andes or climb to Peru's Machu Picchu, a holiday in South American is something you'll never regret. For a vibrant, loud and life affirming big-city experience, lose yourself at Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and dance the tango in Buenos Aires. To get well off the beaten path, try communing with the varied and delightful nature of the Galapagos Islands, over 600 miles from Ecuador or find a very far-flung (and contested) corner of Britain on the Falkland Islands.

Then again you could always head to Venezuela to admire the world's highest waterfall - Angel Falls - then make your way to the coast for some stunning beaches. Of course, Brazil is the continent's most famous beach beauty and no chance to hit the sand here should be passed up. Remember Chile isn't always chilly but has some of the best ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere. So when South America calls, don't miss answering.

For a holiday that covers more ground though, a tour of South America is a fantastic way to see this continent. From the adventure of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in Peru to a once in a life time wildlife cruise around the Galapagos Islands, South America's diversity is best seen by following an expert.
