Your Example Itinerary
Day 1
Fly from the UK to Johannesburg.
Days 2-5
Kruger National Park
Head out of Johannesburg and set off on safari in the world-renowned Kruger National Park, where you have every chance of some dramatic wildlife sightings. Head out in the early morning when the game is most active, and see if you can spot the Big Five – lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino. Return to your lodge at lunchtime, relax by the pool or indulge in a massage, then head back out in the afternoon to catch the animals as they come to cool off at the waterholes. And of course no safari would be complete without an evening sundowner, a refreshing drink or two as the sun goes down.

Day 6
Johannesburg
A short pit stop in Jo’burg will give you the chance to discover a city that is looking towards a bright future. Perhaps take a glimpse into its chequered past at the Apartheid Museum, discover the burgeoning Melville and Maboneng neighbourhoods, and sample some of the best barbecue restaurants in the country. If there’s time, consider a tour of Constitution Hill; the infamous prison is now a complex of museums and exhibitions.

Days 7-12
Cape Town & Winelands
Fly to Cape Town. The first thing you’ll notice after touching down in one of the world’s most beautiful cities is the looming plateau of Table Mountain – take the time to hike to the peak or ride the cable car to the top. And this is just the start. Explore the colourful Bo-Kaap region, taste spicy Cape Malay cuisine, watch penguins waddling on Boulders Beach, and discover the dark history of UNESCO-listed Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, too. You’ll see sandy white beaches, rugged mountains and an abundance of wildlife: think antelope, zebra and humpback whales. You’ll also get to indulge in the beautiful Winelands region here.

Day 12
