Gaya Island Resort
From the moment you step foot on this idyllic isle, you know you’re in for a treat. Gaya’s all-villa accommodation is nestled within a wildlife-rich rainforest, which opens up onto a beautiful beach – where you’ll find a PADI-accredited scuba centre offering top-notch water sports galore. You can explore the nearby reefs on snorkelling and diving adventures, or help the marine rangers with turtle rescues and rehabilitation – just one of the island’s unique wildlife experiences. Sustainability is much more than just a buzz word here: Gaya has been a forest reserve since 1923, and is home to proboscis monkeys, red giant flying squirrels, and exotic birdlife galore. There’s also a 100-year-old mangrove forest, which you can explore in guided kayaking trips – plus two excellent conservation centres where you can learn more about Borneo’s incredible diversity. Just as you’d expect from a resort as swish as this, there’s also a glorious spa (try a Rolling Waves rhythmic massage), fabulous restaurants, and a sea-view swimming pool. It’s a combination made in holiday heaven.

*Bayu Villas* Surrounded by lush rainforest, these one-bedroom villas combine modern mod cons with natural beauty aplenty. Each one has a king size bed and daybed, and interconnecting options are available for families too. *Canopy Villa* Just walking distance from the beach, this residence has floor-to-ceiling windows to let the sunlight flood in – plus a private balcony for you to stretch out on. Some are situated close to the resort’s main amenities, but we recommend booking a more secluded suite for lush mangrove views. *Kinabalu Villa* The terrace of this magnificent villa is utterly sublime, with spectacular sea views and Mount Kinabalu looming on the horizon. Inside you’ll find a king size bed, deluxe bathroom and stylish lounge area. *Suria Suite* This two-bedroom beauty has a deep-soak bath on its terrace, so you can wallow to your heart’s content – while sipping sundowner cocktails, or spotting monkeys in the treetops. A great option for families, it has two bathrooms and a spacious lounge/dining room too. Additional room types available. Chat to your lovely Travel Consultant to find the perfect room to suit you, and let us tailor-make it easy.
"While each of Gaya Island’s restaurants are excellent, Tavajun Bay deserves special mention. Reached by a five-minute boat trip from the resort, it consists of a small thatched dining area and a handful of tables – all set on a beautiful white-sand beach. Lunch changes every day, but it’s always a local dish cooked over charcoal embers: simple, yet utterly sublime. Closer to home, Feast Village serves a huge international buffet all day, while the seafood at Fisherman’s Cove is fresh and utterly fabulous. Ask our Flight Centre Concierge team about booking your restaurants in advance. LIST OF RESTAURANTS: ● Feast Village - International ● Fisherman’s Cove - Seafood ● Omakase - Japanese ● Pool Bar - Light bites ● Tavajun Bay - Malaysian"
For Kids’ aged four to 12, the Kuri-Kuri Kids’’ Club offers an ever-changing programme of activities, games and arty capers – many of which have an island theme. With treasure hunts and wildlife-themed crafts, it’s a great way for them to learn about their spectacular surroundings. For adventures that the whole family will love, sign up for a nature walk or visit the marine centre – while confident swimmers will love going snorkelling from the beach.
