Where to Go in Germany

Start in the German capital of Berlin, where a compelling history is revealed at the site of the Berlin Wall and fascinating wartime architecture stretches across the city. Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt each offer an equally interesting city break (particularly during Oktoberfest) and, for a more laid-back experience, head for the countryside. Dramatic castles, rivers flanked by dense forests and vast wine country dominate here, and it's utterly blissful.

When to Go to Germany

Germany is a four seasons in one day kind of country, where it can be cold and windy in the morning, then turn warm and sunny as the day progresses. If you’re looking for consistent warmth, summer is the best time to visit, while spring and autumn offer more uncertainty temperature wise, but fewer crowds. Visit in November and December for the best Christmas markets (we love Nuremberg’s Christkindlesmarkt) and hopefully a beautiful dusting of snow.
