The state’s diversity means it is almost impossible to describe in a few words and you'll want more than just a few days to see it all, which is why we’ve created holidays that take in multiple spots around the state.
Want to get behind the wheel? Thanks to its rugged beauty and picturesque landscapes, Western Australia is prime road trip territory – whether you're exploring for a few days, a few weeks, or more. Its myriad driving routes will take you to some of the world’s most pristine and clean coastlines, into the heart of premium wine country, and through spectacular gorges and Outback. Lovers of wine, wildlife and stunning scenery should head to the tranquil Margaret River region, while those looking to experience some of Australia’s exotic marine life should venture north along the Coral Coast. Here you can swim with majestic whale sharks, giant manta rays, humpbacks and dugongs at the iconic Ningaloo Reef, the largest fringing reef on the planet. And choose the right holiday, like our Beaches & Reefs of Western Australia Journey, and we'll give you heavily discounted one-way car hire fees – so you can simply drive north and fly back down to Perth to make the most of your precious time here.

When to Go to Western Australia
As such a large state, Western Australia’s climate is incredibly diverse, ranging from Mediterranean in the south to tropical in the north. Luckily for you, this means there’s always somewhere sunny to explore in the state no matter what time of year you visit. Temperatures do drop in the winter months of June to August, particularly in the lower end of the state with temperatures in Perth falling to 12°C. These cooler conditions make for a great opportunity to visit the Margaret River for country walks and wine tasting. March to July is also the best time to visit Western Australia to swim with whale sharks, while the summer months of December to February are best spent cooling off at the beaches near Perth and Fremantle.
