Fly from the UK to Cairns.
Arrive in Cairns, a vibrant and laid-back city wedged between the rainforest and the Coral Sea. Take a stroll down to the Esplanade for a dip in the sparkling Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, the perfect remedy to cool off in the tropics. Head down to the Cairns Night Markets – held every night from sunset – for a bite to eat, or to snag a bargain from the myriad stalls. Pack a picnic lunch and venture south of Cairns, approximately 46 miles, to Wooroonooran National Park to witness the thundering torrent of the picturesque Josephine Falls. Join a Kuranda Skyrail & Scenic Rail tour, where you would travel through the UNESCO-listed rainforest onboard the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to Kuranda, with free time to explore the village, returning on the Scenic Railway.

Today head out to Fitzroy Island Resort – just 45 minutes by boat from Cairns Marina. Fitzroy Island is a tropical paradise of rainforest and beaches within the calm sheltered waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The famous Nudey Beach has even been named the Best Beach in Australia! The resort facilities include a contemporary restaurant, large pool with swim-up bar, games room, indoor movie theatre, resort general store, Foxys Bar, dive shop and turtle rehabilitation hospital. Activities include a water trampoline, kayaking, snorkelling, paddle boarding and exploring the island's walking trails, ranging from an easy walk through the secret garden rainforest or a challenging hike up to the summit great for taking photos of the magnificent view! Fitzroy Island Resort offers guests the opportunity to intimately discover the magic of the Great Barrier Reef. The turquoise ocean waters offer a tantalising invitation to explore their mysterious depths, which are alive with vibrant corals and marine life. Fitzroy Island is the ultimate island experience and will create memories to last a lifetime.
4.5* Fitzroy Island Resort
Make your way back to Cairns by ferry, and collect your hire car for the remainder of your stay. As you make your way to Port Douglas, take a slight detour to Palm Cove and dine at one of the many waterfront restaurants dotted along the Esplanade. Travel north along the scenic coastal road to Port Douglas, where you will spend the next three nights. Port Douglas is a relaxed town where you can slow down, revitalise and enjoy the sheer beauty of the region. Take a stroll along the beautiful Four Mile Beach, explore the natural wonders of nearby Mossman Gorge, or head to the main street for great food and wine and a spot of shopping. Immerse yourself in Port Douglas’ leading interactive wildlife experience at the award-winning Wildlife Habitat. See a cassowary, dare to walk over the top of estuarine crocodiles on the world’s first Predator Plank, hand-feed kangaroos, and meet the rare Lumholtz tree-kangaroos. A must-do is to spend time out on the Great Barrier Reef. Spend the day onboard Quicksilver’s Wavepiecer catamaran and set sail for Agincourt Reef, a spacious pontoon. Explore the jewel-like ribbon reef with spectacular coral formations, a kaleidoscope of exotic marine life, and clear outer-reef waters. This is the most popular way to experience the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef with the widest range of activities. The tour includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, snorkelling equipment, access to an underwater observatory and semi-sub. You can also scuba dive, helmet dive or take a helicopter ride above the reef (at extra cost).
4.5* Mantra Aqueous On Port
Step back in time as you travel through the ancient World Heritage Daintree Rainforest to Cape Tribulation, where the Kuku Yalanji people have called this area home for over 50,000 years. This is the only place in the world where two World Heritage sites exist side by side, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. The lush rainforest is bursting with wildlife and history, making it the most complex ecosystem in the world. Take a bushwalk through the rainforest and beach, or join in on a horse ride through the rainforest and paddocks to the sands of Cape Tribulation. If you wish to venture further north beyond the Cape, you will need to upgrade your hire car to a 4X4 as the bitumen ends here.
