Sandwiched between two world-renowned UNESCO sites – Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef – the popular city of Cairns is where most visitors head to explore the delights of Tropical North Queensland. It’s from here you can take day trips out to snorkel and dive the Great Barrier Reef, enjoy forest views from above on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, spy wildlife in the ancient Daintree Rainforest and swim on secluded beaches at Cape Tribulation. Needless to say, while Cairns may be considered a city, its surrounds consist of some of Australia’s most exciting natural wonders.

When to Go to Cairns
With its location in Tropical North Queensland, weather in Cairns ranges from warm to hot. Unlike most of Australia, Cairns and this region only really experiences two seasons: the dry and the wet. The dry season takes place from April to November when conditions are less humid and rainfall less common. This season is typically the best time to visit the region, especially if you’re looking to visit the Great Barrier Reef. From November to March the wet season hits the region, with more humid conditions and rainfall. This is still a fantastic time to visit though, as rain typically falls in the evening and the region, especially the Daintree Rainforest, comes alive with waterfalls and vibrant green vegetation.
