The Great Ocean Road’s most famous sites are the Twelve Apostles, iconic limestone stacks that emerge from the roaring ocean below. Fun fact, there were never 12, but now, only seven remain. The beauty of a Great Ocean Road adventure is that you can set out with an open itinerary and see where the day takes you. For blissful beach days and balmy summer nights, aim to travel between December to February. The shoulder seasons of spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) offer mild temps and slightly reduced crowds, but if you can brave the cold, winter (June to August) is when you’ll catch a glimpse of the whales frolicking in the ocean as they make their way along the coastline.

Take a scenic drive, marvel at the Twelve Apostles, roll out a rug and enjoy a picnic with a view, get your stoke on with a surf (or learn to surf), go hiking and biking along rainforest trails, make friends with the local wildlife, enjoy a bite at the pub or one of the many restaurants, check out some of the cute towns along the way, the list is endless!
