Every 2027 UK bank holiday, plus exactly how many leave days to book for the longest possible break around each one.

How is it that your annual leave is just never enough?! That's where the UK's bank holidays come in. With a bit of forward planning, the UK's 2027 bank holidays can be stretched much further than they look on paper. Here's every confirmed date, plus exactly how many leave days to book to get the longest possible break around each one.

UK Bank Holidays 2027

England and Wales have eight bank holidays confirmed for 2027 (Scotland has nine, and Northern Ireland 10, with a few extra nation-specific dates). Here's the full list, plus the leave-hack for each one.

  • New Year's Day: Friday 1 January – already a three-day weekend without booking any leave.
  • Good Friday: Friday 26 March, and Easter Monday: Monday 29 March – a four-day weekend as standard, and 2027's Easter falls unusually early. Book Tuesday 30 March to Friday 2 April (four days of leave) for 10 days off in total, Friday 26 March to Sunday 4 April.
  • Early May bank holiday: Monday 3 May – a straightforward three-day weekend.
  • Spring bank holiday: Monday 31 May – book the preceding Tuesday to Friday (four days) for a nine-day break, Saturday 29 May to Sunday 6 June.
  • Summer bank holiday: Monday 30 August (2 August in Scotland) – another easy three-day weekend, or extend with a few days either side for a longer late-summer break.
  • Christmas Day (substitute day): Monday 27 December, and Boxing Day (substitute day): Tuesday 28 December. Since both fall on a weekend in 2027, book Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 December (three days of leave) for an eight-day break, encompassing Saturday 25 December to Saturday 1 January.

Where to go: Destination ideas for each break

  1. Australia suits the Christmas break particularly well, given it lines up with the Australian summer – a genuine escape from the UK winter, with sunny beaches and laid-back cities on offer. Winter sun, here we come!
  2. New Zealand is a strong pick for a longer trip, particularly the Easter window, offering dramatic fiords, world-class wine regions and adventure activities across both islands.
  3. The USA works well for the spring and summer bank holidays, with New York and San Francisco both excellent for a city break packed with museums, food and culture.
  4. Southeast Asia (Thailand, Bali, Singapore) suits shorter breaks like the Early May and Summer bank holidays, offering reliable warm weather and good value.
  5. South Africa is well suited to the Christmas break for Cape Town's summer sunshine, or May to September for safari season in Kruger and beyond.

Booking these dates in early is the real advantage – both leave requests and flight prices get harder to secure the closer you get to each window. Chat with a Flight Centre Travel Expert to match a destination to your dates, or browse our Deals Page for what's currently on offer.

England and Wales have eight confirmed bank holidays in 2027: New Year's Day (1 January), Good Friday (26 March), Easter Monday (29 March), the Early May bank holiday (3 May), the Spring bank holiday (31 May), the Summer bank holiday (30 August), and the Christmas Day and Boxing Day substitute days (27 and 28 December).

The Easter and Christmas windows offer the best value: four days of leave around Easter (30 March – 2 April) gives ten days off, and three days of leave at the end of December (29–31 December) gives eight days off.

Good Friday falls on 26 March 2027 and Easter Monday on 29 March, giving a four-day long weekend as standard, or 10 days off with four days of leave booked either side.

Yes – Christmas Day and Boxing Day both fall on a weekend in 2027, so the substitute bank holidays are observed on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December, already giving a four-day break before any leave is booked.

England and Wales have eight, Scotland has nine, and Northern Ireland has 10, with the extra dates covering nation-specific observances like St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne.
