Coronavirus Travel Update – Holidays to Italy During COVID-19

Italy Holidays COVID-19

Italy is open for business, and we can’t wait to get back to this European gem. You can take a socially-distanced gondola ride in Venice, explore historic Rome, or head to the dramatic Amalfi Coast for sun, sea, sand and lemons aplenty. To find out the best holiday options to suit you, chat to one of our lovely Travel Consultants on 0208 127 4273 or check out some more inspiration on our Italy holidays hub.

And if you want to know more about what it’s like in-destination then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve been speaking to our experts on the ground – from Consultants to hotels and tourist boards – to build a better picture of what your holiday could look like. Find out more below:

What can travellers expect from a holiday to Italy during COVID-19?

As one of the hardest hit countries in Europe, Italy is working hard to ensure it is as safe as possible for all tourists. As such, a wide range of social distancing, testing and hygiene measures have been implemented across the country. We recommend booking your tours and making restaurant reservations in advance to avoid disappointment, and to speak to your Flight Centre Travel Consultant about the best places to visit.

What’s open in Italy right now?

Shops, cafes, restaurants and even tourist attractions – including Rome’s Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa – are now open in Italy. Reservations are required to enter museums and galleries, as well as restaurants, gyms, and beauty centres. It is also worth noting that when accessing public buildings you may need to undergo a temperature screening.

Beaches have also reopened with strict social distancing and capacity restrictions in place: sunloungers must be disinfected after each use; masks must be worn when not swimming; and group sports or activities are banned.

What do I need to know about social distancing and PPE in Italy?

The Italian authorities are enforcing a one-metre gap between non-family groups and there are strict rules on wearing face masks. Coverings must be worn inside public places and outside where space is confined and social distancing is difficult.
