Check-in

Cancun Airport has four terminals: Terminal 1 handles charter flights, while Terminals 2, 3 and 4 serve scheduled domestic and international services. It’s always a good idea to arrive at the airport nice and early for your flight, and to confirm check-in times directly with your airline as each may have different requirements. As a general guide, aim for at least two hours before domestic departures and three hours before international flights – particularly during peak season when queues can be longer. Remember, it’s often possible to check in online in advance via your airline’s website or app, which can be a handy way to save time on the day of travel.

Baggage

Baggage allowances vary by airline and ticket class, so it’s important to confirm what’s included with your flight booking to avoid any surprises at bag drop! For more specific information on baggage limits, such as the size, weight and number of bags included in your airfare, check with your airline or ask your Travel Expert for assistance. It’s worth noting that Cancun Airport does not currently offer luggage storage lockers, so plan accordingly if you’re looking to travel light between flights. Baggage wrapping stations are available in the terminals for added security.

Transport and terminal transfers

Looking for the best ways to get to and from Cancun Airport? There are plenty of ground transportation options available.

Parking facilities are available at Terminals 2, 3 and 4 at Cancun Airport, with rates of approximately $2 USD per hour. You’ll receive a ticket on entry and need to pay the fee inside the terminal before returning to your vehicle.

Official airport taxis are available from Cancun Airport. You can purchase your taxi ticket at the kiosk inside the terminal before heading outside. It’s worth noting that local taxis are not permitted to pick up passengers directly at the airport, so stick with the official service or a pre-booked transfer.

Multiple car rental agencies are available at Cancun Airport, including major international and local providers. Talk to your Travel Expert about organising car hire for your trip or book it yourself online before you leave. Just remember that mandatory Mexican car insurance may be required.

Pre-arranged hotel transfers and private shuttle services are the most popular way to get from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and the wider Riviera Maya. The airport strongly recommends booking your ground transport in advance with an official provider before you arrive – it’s the easiest way to get to your resort without any fuss.

ADO is the main long-distance bus company serving Cancun Airport, with routes to Cancun city centre, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Mérida and other destinations across the Yucatán Peninsula. It’s a comfortable and budget-friendly option for getting around the region.

Cancun Airport offers a free inter-terminal shuttle service connecting all four terminals, running every 10–20 minutes. This makes it straightforward to transfer between terminals if needed.
