Information about British Airways

British Airways is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom and has over 100 years of aviation history under its wings! With its main base at London Heathrow Airport, British Airways operates flights to over 170 destinations across the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The airline is a member of the global oneworld Alliance, and passengers can book British Airways flights in Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class. In true British fashion, the airline serves close to 40 million in-flight cups of tea each year and was the first to offer fully flat beds for travellers flying in First and Business Class back in the late 1990s, leading the way in sky-high luxury. While last-minute British Airways sale fares may become available, you’ll generally find it pays to plan ahead, especially if you’re booking long-haul international flights! Most airlines release tickets around 11 months in advance, and as a rough guide, we recommend you book British Airways flights between six and nine months before you fly. When it comes to balancing flexible travel dates with the best savings, this should give you the best of both worlds!

When flying with British Airways, you can generally bring one handbag (40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm) and one carry-on bag (56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm), both weighing up to 23kg, on board with you.

Depending on your ticket, checked baggage may be included in your British Airways airfare. For Economy passengers, checked bags typically have a weight limit of 23kg and can measure up to 90 cm x 75 cm x 43 cm.

Baggage allowances may vary depending on your flight itinerary, loyalty program status and ticket class, so make sure you check what’s included with your specific British Airways tickets. Need to add extra baggage to your booking? Talk to your Travel Expert before take-off.

You may be able to earn frequent flyer points when booking British Airways flights with us. You can ask your Travel Expert to do it for you when booking in-store. Cape Town and Johannesburg are also popular destinations for British Airways, reflecting strong ties with South Africa.
