A beach in Mauritius

An important stop on the trade routes, the pristine shores of Mauritius have been attracting foreign visitors for centuries. Its varied history is evident in the colonial plantation homes and Creole cuisine. Nature abounds in the volcanic island’s interior with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking and mountain bike trails. Our Travel Experts love the Black River Gorges National Park for wildlife spotting and the reef sheltered lagoons that cater for both the abundant sea life and the water sports enthusiasts.

Flic En Flac

On the West coast of Mauritius Flic en Flac has developed from a small fishing village to a tourism hotspot, and for good reason. Here you can find an 8km stretch of pure white sand ripe for relaxation. The beach, finged with Casurina Trees, is protected by a reef and is, therefore, a safe area for swimming, water sports and exploring the underwater world.

Grand Baie

Grand Baie is the most famous resort in Mauritius. Located on the North coast of the island, the area is typified by azure seas and beautiful secluded white sand beaches and sheltered coves and a coast peppered with gorgeous hotels and charming restaurants. The waters around the area are calm and ripe for exploration.

Explore the underwater world

The coral reef that surrounds this island is the third largest in the world and protects the coast from the vast Indian Ocean, which drives so much of the lives of the residents of the island. It is also the perfect environment for Marine life and provides habitat for turtles and tropical fish, both of which can be seen easily from the islands beautiful white-sand beaches.

Swim with Dolphins

The best spot for swimming with Dolphins is Baie du Tamarin on the East of the island, located at the mouth of the Black river. There is a pod of dolphins who have chosen to make this corner of Mauritius their home. Best viewed in the mornings or early evenings, make sure that you don’t miss the chance to swim with dolphins on your holiday to Mauritius.

Take in a rum tour

The tipple of choice in Mauritius is rum, which is desperately unsurprising when you drive past the fields full of sugar cane and consider that so much of this islands population relies on the sea. Why not get better acquainted with the production of this liquor and taste some of the finest samples on the island. The best place to do this is Rhumerie de Chamarel, a rum distillery in the South West of the island.
