When gearing up for the European holiday of your dreams, your packing list should always include your toiletries, swimmers and, in our opinion even more importantly, travel insurance!

Not convinced? We caught up with Cover-More to hear about some of the more unlikely insurance claims they’ve come across over the years that might make you think twice about leaving the country unprotected! It just goes to show that the unexpected does happen and it pays to be prepared for anything.

      1. While in a cable car, one holiday-goer took a call from his boss and accidentally dropped the phone from a tremendous height, smashing it to pieces.

      1. The age-old excuse has always been “my dog ate my homework”, but for one traveller, “my dog ate my passport” became a reality.
      2. While enjoying some appetizers in Vienna, one woman bit into an olive and cracked her front tooth.
      3. Dedication to an enviable holiday tan turned into a lost luggage claim for one sun-lover who removed her Fitbit to avoid awkward tan lines. After a blissful afternoon of sunshine, she left it under the chair, leaving it to be lost forever.

      1. One poor fella submitted a claim because he was “kicked in the testicles”. It resulted in a $4,000+ medical bill. Double ouch!
      2. One man was trying to get his suitcase up an old, difficult staircase to his accommodation in the Spanish city of Salamanca when he smashed two of its wheels.
      3. Whilst jumping from a barge to the jetty after a boat trip around Lake Como in Italy, a woman’s shoulder bag slipped and fell into the fast-moving current. She never saw the bag again and the incident resulted in a claim over $3,000.

      1. A man was at the beach in Athens when a wave came out of nowhere and washed his leather shoes away. He was able to grab them, but unfortunately by then they were falling apart!
      2. One unlucky driver was going down an incredibly narrow street in the Greek village of Papigo when they got stuck and scraped both sides of their hire car.
