Things to Do in Australia's South

Hallett Cove Boardwalk, South Australia

“Friendly people, pristine wilderness, world-class culture, coast and countryside. There’s a lot to love here. And that’s without mentioning the wine!” says writer, Anna Pointer. This is just a glimpse of what Australia's South has to offer. Here you'll find the most outstanding and adventurous things to do in Australia's South – Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania...

Melbourne tram

Fly into Melbourne and out of Adelaide, or vice versa, to avoid looping back. An affordable way to increase your comfort is by upgrading only your outbound or return flights. Even better, Etihad Airways offers the flexibility to upgrade any one of the four legs of the international return flights.

Explore Wildlife in Australia's South

Australia’s South offers up the country’s distinctive wildlife in abundance. The clue’s in the name, and Kangaroo Island is home to thousands of these Aussie marsupials, but you’ll also find plenty of other species too, including sea lions and the elusive echidna. Native little penguins are found here as well – or catch the iconic Penguin Parade on Victoria’s Phillip Island.

Head to Cape Otway Lighthouse, along the Great Ocean Road, and look out for dozens of koalas lazing in the eucalyptus trees nearby. In Tasmania we spotted wombats from the car – but it’s less common to see platypus and Tassie Devils in the wild, so ask us about the best ways to get up close to these locals.

Arrange a Stay at Pumphouse Point

Add an extra day after exploring Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain and head south to Lake St Clair. Your Travel Consultant can arrange a stay at the sublime Pumphouse Point, set at the end of a pier stretching out across the water.

Score Tickets to Australia's Sports

If you’re in Melbourne in January, don’t miss Grand Slam tennis at the Australian Open. Adelaide, meanwhile, is as mad about sports as it is about food, so try catching a game of Aussie rules football at the Oval. Your Flight Centre Concierge can book tickets.
