Easter holiday wish list
Have you booked a getaway for Easter yet? With the year’s only four day bank holiday fast approaching, we’ve started dreaming about an Easter break in destinations warmer and sunnier than the UK. If you’re looking for somewhere to spend the Easter long weekend in 2014, here is some inspiration for you to begin planning a trip that’ll make you the envy of all of your friends:
OK, so you’ll need a little more time than just the two bank holidays to get all the way over to Australia, but Easter is a great time to head Down Under. Why? It’s autumn over there, which means it shouldn’t be uncomfortably hot like the summer. This also means it’ll be a little less busy than the peak months, giving you the chance to see the best sights without the crowds. The cosmopolitan city of Melbourne is a great place to start your holiday to Australia as it offers culture, food, shopping and access to amazing nearby places like Phillip Island (pictured above) and the Great Ocean Road.
Dubai is a fascinating city that seems to have suddenly emerged from the desert over recent years. It’s home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, as well as a huge man-made island shaped like a palm tree and another shaped like a map of the world. In Dubai you can ski in a shopping mall, ride camels in the desert and shop until you drop. A city break in this desert oasis is perfect for a long weekend, and it's the ideal destination for a much-needed dose of sunshine.
If you’re after a family Easter break, consider a trip to Orlando where you’re guaranteed fun for all ages. As the theme park capital of the world, kids (and big kids) will stay entertained with Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and even Wet ‘n Wild Water Park to choose from. Temperatures average around 30 degrees during April which means you’ll get that holiday feeling whether you’re whizzing down a rollercoaster or relaxing by the pool. This is another break that’ll take a bit longer than just four days, but we can’t think of a better way to use our holiday time than this!
New York is a great city to explore for a long weekend. Whether you’re into fine dining, art galleries, theatre or shopping, the Big Apple offers it all to visitors. Stroll through Central Park, pound the pavement of 5th Avenue, hail a famous yellow cab, check out the Statue of Liberty or take a look at Times Square...it’s all do-able in a long weekend, but beware: a few days and you’ll probably be hooked on the buzz of this fast paced metropolis.
Get it in your diary: In 2014, the Easter holiday dates are April 18-21
