Still wondering what to buy the jetsetter in your life for Christmas? From luggage and travel kits to vouchers and globes, here’s a dollop of inspiration to suit every budget. If you’ve already bought all the presents on your list, you could always post this on your Facebook wall or Twitter as a not-so-subtle hint for friends and family buying for you this Christmas.
The gift of inspiration
Guidebooks are a brilliant gift idea. Whether your friend/mum/partner has been itching to visit India or set on seeing Scotland, a guidebook is the perfect present to give them some inspiration and encourage them to book their next trip. There are loads to choose from, from Rough Guides and Lonely Planet to LUXE City Guides and Hg2 for the more stylish traveller; so there really is something for everyone (and you, of course).
It might sound a little practical but a cool set of luggage can be the ideal present for someone with a serious dose of wanderlust. My parents bought me my backpack one Christmas many moons ago and a couple of years back they splashed out on a sleek, silver Marks & Spencer suitcase for me. For those with a larger budget and a friend with expensive taste, Antler always have a good selection that would suit those wanting a good, quality investment suitcase.
When it comes to packing toiletries, sometimes you just pack your nearest bottle of shampoo and shower gel and go. But if you’re watching your luggage weight and size, you might need to downsize a little. That’s where travel kits come in handy. You can often buy these from anywhere from Boots to John Lewis. Malin+Goetz, available at Space NK, offer a nifty set that’s “carry-on approved”, or check out Muji for great stocking fillers.
All around the world
Why not buy a globetrotter a, erm globe? I snapped one up for my father a few Christmases ago and it remains his favourite-ever gift (and I do like spinning it around and plotting my own getaways). Stanfords has one of the best collections.
Slip in a voucher
Not sure what to buy that special someone this year? Vouchers can be the perfect gift for jetsetters, so why not snap up some from Flight Centre? If you’re feeling lucky you can enter our Christmas competition to win a £1000 voucher, which would make a fabulous gift (for you or a loved one). For added effect, slip the voucher in a guidebook and let the globetrotting commence!
