Instatraveller: Travelling Dogs Max and Louise

21 Dec 2017

15 countries and counting –adorable pals Max and Louise have been busy exploring the world and sharing it all on Instagram. With over 130,000 people following their story, we caught up with their owner Thiago to find out more about the adventures of @max_et_louise

How did it all begin?

My furry friend Max arrived in 2009 when I moved to France after living all my life in Rio de Janeiro. I got married in Paris and Max arrived home for Christmas. He was so cute and was only 49 days old the day he came home. Louise joined us a few years later when we living in Caracas, Venezuela. She was Max’s Christmas gift that year and they got on straight away! Max was so happy and they played all day long. Before Louise, he used to sleep most of the time, but his life changed when we brought Louise home; since that day he’s had his own partner in crime.

When did you realise they loved to travel as much as you?

Max has travelled with us since he was five-months-old. His first trip with us was a skiing holiday in the French Alps. I was studying Photography in Paris, and I began documenting our adventures with Max. He became my model; he loves the camera and to pose. After that, we travelled to all sorts of different places together. Max and Louise have been to around 15 countries, ranging from Spain to Austria to the USA.

Which destination has been your favourite to visit with them?

Miami is definitely our favourite place in the world. I always have so much fun there with Max and Louise. We are big fans of the Wynwood Art District: lots of dog friendly places to visit, eat, and shop. There are also lots of dog parks in the South Beach area, and some really cool beaches like Haulover Dog Beach, which we love.

What’s your favourite image of Max and why?

I love the photo of Max with his hat in Venice (above). That was his second trip and my honeymoon. He was so young that we didn’t want to leave him alone and he behaved so well; exploring the landmarks, getting to know the city, and eating at a delicious pasta restaurant. After that trip, I realised that Max had huge potential to be the best travel companion ever!

What’s the reaction been like to your photographs and the Instagram account?

At first, I started sharing these moments only with family and friends and now wherever we go, we meet followers. We’ve met people on the beach in LA, and on the streets of Lisbon.
Our images are getting more engagement with each trip we do. We receive many direct messages: sometimes people want to meet Max and Louise, others say they don’t have dogs but they love to follow the account, and of course dog lovers wanting to know more about how to travel with a dog. It’s really nice to see people traveling more and more with their dogs because of our account.

What’s the next adventure?

We’ll be in Rio de Janeiro for Christmas; we’re looking forward to the sunshine after spending lots of time in Europe!

Where is home?

Somewhere between São Paulo and Paris :)
