Jakarta is a city of wealth contrasted with abject poverty. Similarly, visiting here can be very affordable or dearly expensive depending on the choices you make. Eat well for under US$20 a day or spend much more on wine with dinner. Virtually all ATMs accept international cards, and banks increasingly, but not universally, accept traveller's checks. When paying cash, you'll routinely get shortchanged, with prices rounded (up, almost always) to the nearest Rp1,000. Credit cards are widely accepted, but you must pay cash in many smaller shops and venues. Attractions routinely charge more for foreigners; let it go.
