Seal Bay Conservation Park

Kangaroo Island’s Seal Bay is home to an impressive colony of Australian sea lions who use the secluded sandy shores to rest and nurse their young. In this protected sanctuary, visitors are awarded an up-close-and-personal experience with the furry creatures on the beach if they opt for a guided tour – see the sea lions fish, surf, snooze, care for their pups and defend their territory from a truly spectacular vantage point.

If you prefer to go your own way, venture along the 800-metre boardwalk over the dunes to a number of lookouts and see the sea lions at leisure and play. At the other end of the spectrum, you can book an exclusive twilight tour to walk amongst the seals as the bay is bathed in dusk light.

A once-in-a-lifetime experience 

The colony of playful sea lions is the third largest in the country and the only one accessible to the public. Both the boardwalk and beach tour will see you within metres of the pups calling out for their mums, basking in the sun and frolicking in the shallows – make sure you have your camera handy!

Seal Bay Conservation Park is free to enter, however fees apply to both the boardwalk and beach tours. The self-guided boardwalk experience costs $AUD15 for adults and $AUD12 for children, while the beach tour is $AUD32 and $AUD18 respectively.  

Reserve a full day to explore Seal Bay and the nearby Heritage Listed “Little Sahara”. Hire a sand-board or toboggan from Vivonne Bay and experience thrills and spills over some two square kilometres of windswept sand dunes.
