Byron Bay Beaches

Byron Bay is one of Australia’s most popular beach and surfing areas with over 18 miles of pristine beach situated up and down the coast and near Byron Cape, the eastern most point on the Australian mainland.

There are many excellent beaches to choose from whether it be dog-friendly, clothing optional, a secluded cove or patrolled and popular main beach, the diverse selections mirror the town these beaches serve – open, accessible, welcoming and relaxing.

Belongil Beach is situated at the northernmost part of the Byron Bay coastline. This is one of the few dog-friendly beaches and offers a secluded feel due to the sand dunes lining the beach. With close-by cafés this is an excellent spot to relax and go for a leisurely walk. A small portion of this beach is also clothing optional but of course only permitted in its legally approved area.

Main Beach is located directly in front of Byron Bay and is a popular, well visited beach that is partially patrolled in the summer. The beach is easily accessed on foot from the town centre and many restaurants and cafés as well as toilet facilities are close by.

Clarkes Beach, just south of Main Beach, is north facing as it stretches out along the extension of Byron Cape. With the cape’s rocky terrain the beach includes rocky areas that are excellent for snorkelling. Patrolled during the summer this is an excellent beach for windsurfing or boogie boarding. The permanent volleyball net is also a popular fixture here.

These are just a few of the many beaches located around Byron Bay. With a small town centre it’s an easy area to navigate and a beach is never far away.
