The Barossa is a wine region north of Adelaide and home to over thirteen thousand hectares of vineyards. Blessed with a Mediterranean climate, lovely valleys and inviting towns this is the perfect area for a scenic drive on the search for that favourite bottle of red or white.

Some of the oldest vines in the world can be found in the Barossa and while this area is mostly known for its legendary Shiraz, many other varieties can also be found from Cabernet to Grenache and whites such as Riesling and Semillon.

Château Tanunda, Established in 1890 is Australia’s oldest Château and birthplace of the Barossa wine industry where some of the first vines in the area were established. The sight of this impressive brick and bluestone building located in Tanunda is a look back in time. Similar design elements can be found in the Distillery and Bond Store buildings built in 1911. Daily guided tours take you through Basket Press Winery, the Long Room and finish at the iconic Barrell Hall for a wine tasting. The Cellar Door too is the perfect atmosphere for a wine tasting surrounded by barrels of maturing wine while staff guide you through the varied wine list.

While other vineyards may not have an historic château, there are countless wineries in the Barossa who can also boast of excellent wines. There are many delightful choices throughout the Barossa with cozy café’s and award winning eateries serving the finest ingredients. Those are the joys of the Barossa, exploring in search of the finest in gastronomic delights.
