Money

Prices in American Samoa are on par with or slightly cheaper than those on the U.S. mainland. The island has a couple of well known fast-food outlets with similar pricing. Restaurant meals are reasonably priced; items in the market and clothing stores are cheaper than mainland equivalents.

Currency and Exchange

The national currency of American Samoa is the United States dollar, divided into 100 cents. As on the U.S. mainland, coins come in 1, 5, 10, and 25 cent denominations. Bills in common usage come in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 dollar denominations. American Samoa has two major banks, the Bank of Hawaii and the ANZ Amerika Samoa Bank. There are several ATMs around the island.

Taxes

There are no sales taxes in American Samoa and airport departure tax is included in the airfare.

Tipping

Officially, there is no tipping in American Samoa. However, many residents are aware of the tipping culture in the United States and will accept tips if offered.
