For international flights, TAM Airlines offers three economy fares designed for different budgets and offering different benefits, such as the ability to upgrade your seat using loyal points. These different fares are Access, Flex and Plus and are perfect for those who want to get from A to B for a reasonable price. Most seats are 17 or 18-inch wide and have at least a 32-inch pitch, offering plenty of legroom.

Entertainment: New aircrafts offer personal video screens with a variety of movies, TV shows and music on offer. Older planes will have one large screen up-front playing a movie and some audio channels.

Business Class

In 2014 TAM did away with its First Class offering to make more room for its fantastic Business Class, a cabin which is in the process of being revamped. The big perk in this overhauled class is that seats will recline into flat beds that are 84 inches (2.12 metres) in length – 15 percent bigger than before. In the Airbus A350 AN Boeing 787-9, seats will be arranged in a private 2-2-2 layout too, and each passenger will be looked after by a dedicated crew member for a more personalised experience. The luxury begins before you board the plane too: think priority check-in, boarding and baggage drop/reclaim services.

Entertainment: New Business Class seats offer interactive personal screens, where you can choose from a wide range of entertainment options: from films to music.

TAM Airlines Baggage Allowance

Each TAM Airlines passenger is allowed one bag, plus a personal item – such as a laptop or briefcase – with a maximum weight of 5kg. The main bag must be within the dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. The second bag should be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you.

For easy access, place commonly used in-flight items in a smaller bag underneath the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage allowances vary depending on flight routing, cabin class and frequent flyer status. Check with your Flight Centre Airfare Expert in advance for specific baggage policies, but generally allowances for destinatgions in Europe, the Americas and Asia are as follows:

  • Economy and Business class - 2 bags with a maximum of 32kg each

Baggage allowances may differ on other airlines. Check beforehand if your itinerary includes travel on an alliance partner airline.

Bulky Items

Many bulky items such as sporting equipment and musical instruments can be checked in as part of the passengers free baggage allowance. Musical instruments that fit within the carry-on size dimensions can be taken in the cabin. Your Flight Centre Travel Expert can help determine what items are permitted and what items will incur an additional charge.

Non-motorised bicycles are permitted only if packed in a protective case or bag. Pedals should be removed and tyres deflated.

Infant Baggage

An extra 23kg piece of luggage is permitted for infants travelling from the UK to South America or USA. Car seats and prams can be checked in free of charge.

Infants are considered under the age of two. Children aged two and older must have a seat purchased for them.

Restricted Dangerous or Goods

There are many liquids and materials that are banned from flying. Consult with your Flight Centre Airfare Expert on specific items that are banned. Flammable liquids, gases and materials such as matches are not allowed. Explosives, fireworks, poisons, fertilizers are also banned substances.

Equipment with petrol engines are sometimes allowed to fly if drained of fuel before hand. Always check with your Flight Centre consultant before departure on what is allowed on board.

Lounge access varies, but is typically available to those flying Business Class with TAM or oneworld alliance members travelling First Class. Customers with a Black or Red TAM Fidelidade card or Emerald oneworld card are also allowed in.

With free Wi-Fi, buffets, drinks, TVs and even showers in some cases, TAM lounges offer a welcome break from the busy terminal areas, allowing you to start your journey in style.

TAM Airlines Loyalty Program

The TAM Fidelidade program has been running for more than 21 years, allowing regular customers to accrue and redeem points with TAM and all its partner airlines, part of Multiplus, a Brazilian loyalty network. Points redemption is unrestricted too – you could buy the very last seat on a plane if you wanted to. The more you fly, the more you work your way up the status ranks: Blue, Red, Red Plus and Black.

TAM is also a member of the oneworld alliance and frequent flyer points can be earned and redeemed on these partner carriers. Oneworld members include British Airways, Qantas Airways, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, JAL, Malaysia Airways, Finnair, LAN and others.
