Your Example Itinerary
Day 1
Fly from the UK to Windhoek.
Day 2
Windhoek
Arrive in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital and largest city, and transfer to your lodge to meet the rest of your group. Your tour leader will help you stock up on anything you need, including currency. Windhoek is a delightful fusion of African and European culture, architecture and cuisine. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring its many shops, restaurants and bars and be sure to sample the eponymous beer, brewed right here in town.
Days 3-4
Sossusvlei
Drive southwest, through the endless sands of the Namib Desert, to Sesriem and the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Here you’ll take in one of the country’s most impressive sights, Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei is home to some of the tallest sand dunes in the world – climb one for an awesome view over your surroundings or head over to Deadvlei (optional, extra cost) to see scorched acacia trees preserved by the dry heat. Later, head for the Namib Carnivore Conservation Centre where you’ll join the resident biologists to track cheetahs.
Days 5-6
Swakopmund
Continue to the seaside town of Swakopmund, a charming yet slightly strange place in the middle of the desert. There’s a strong German influence here, and you’ll find German architecture, pubs and food on the menus, as well as hear the language spoken here and there. Look for flamingos and with seals in nearby Walvis Bay, then have a whole day free to try a plethora of activities including dolphin watching, deep-sea fishing, quad biking, sandboarding or oyster tasting.
Day 7
Brandberg
Drive inland to Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain, found in the country’s Damaraland region. Keep an eye out for the desert elephants that inhabit the area. Namibia’s desert-adapted elephants are taller than their Etosha counterparts and specially adapted to the dry desert conditions. Even if you don’t spot an elephant, you’ll be sure to marvel at the rugged mountains and russet-hued sands that make this region so unusual.
Day 8
Outjo
Staying in the Damaraland region, soak up the peace and quiet on a walk through the Brandberg Valley and admire the famous White Lady rock painting, thought to be over 2,000 years old. Later on, you’ll meet the people of the Himba tribe in the Khorixas region, where you can learn about their culture and purchase crafts that they’ve made. You’ll have another chance to spot desert elephants and meerkats, as well as the imposing Vingerklip rock formation.
Days 9-11
Etosha National Park
Set off on safari in Etosha National Park. You’ll start in the central Etosha region, where hanging out at the Okaukuejo waterhole is a sure-fire way to get some excellent game sightings. Apart from the classic game drives, you can choose to get closer to the wildlife with a guided walking safari, track rhino on foot or try a night safari. After one night, you’ll drive through the park to eastern Etosha. Look out for rhino, giraffe, lions and elephants along the way!
Day 12
Waterberg
Leaving Etosha behind, head to Waterberg, a 200m-high plateau topped with bushveld. Choose to take a walk along one of the many walking trails, one of which offers a fabulous view over the local landscape. You could also choose to head out on a 4WD game drive to see if you can spot any animals. The following morning, you’ll have some free time to relax or take another walk in the wilderness, before returning to WIndhoek
Day 13
Windhoek
On the way back to Windhoek, you’ll stop at a craft market to stock up on any last-minute souvenirs. Back in town, choose to spend your final night relaxing or head out into the city to explore the museums and shops. If you’d prefer, we can arrange a township tour for you, or a trip out to the Okapuka or Daan Viljoen game reserves – please chat to your friendly travel expert to organise these.
Days 14-15
Depart Windhoek and return to the UK.
