Though there is no Kids’’ club, there are a plenty of family-friendly activities on offer – such as guided nature walks, movie nights, and lots of fun and fascinating wildlife experiences in the Nature Centre. For water babies, there is a family pool close to the beach, with an extra-shallow toddlers’ area. Babysitting and children’s menus (except at The Dining Room) are available on request.

The Pavilion sits on wooden stilts overlooking the treetops – a magical setting for dinner. It’s utterly wild and wonderful: arrive at sunset, and you might even spy the flying lemurs that call this woodland home. Over in The Gulai House, Malaysian bites are served in a similarly lush jungle setting, while The Beach Club specialises in fresh grills on the golden sands.

Why we recommend The Datai

It takes a lot to leave our Travel Consultants speechless, but The Datai does just that. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect combination of lush natural beauty and exquisite amenities: this fabulous five-star resort blends perfectly into its incredible woodland setting. You can spot squirrels and dusky leaf monkeys while enjoying breakfast on your balcony, then stretch out beside a choice of three pools: one for families, one for grown-ups, and one with incredible views of the rainforest canopy. As well as a health club and water sports centre (offering kayaking, windsurfing, snorkelling and more), there’s an award-winning par 72 championship golf course designed by Ernie Els. Datai Spa, set amid winding streams and lush gardens, offers restorative massages and refreshing facials in open-air pavilions. Our tip? Book a Lembut Massage, which blends relaxing herbal oils with ancient healing techniques.
