Fly from the UK to Tokyo
Touch down in fast-paced Tokyo and get ready to spend three days in Japan’s dazzling, futuristic capital. To help you get a real feel for the city, you’ll enjoy a private half-day tour with a local guide. You’ll be using public transport on this tour so it’s ideal to have a guide to show you the ropes. Sights you won’t want to miss include the iconic Shibuya Crossing, the beautiful Kokyo Gaien National Gardens outside the Imperial Palace, and the traditional streets of the Asakusa District.
4* Hotel Gracery Shinjuku
On the next part of your journey, head up to the Japanese Alps for mountain views and delightful countryside scenery. Be sure to visit the Matsumoto Folkcraft Museum to learn more about the arts and crafts of the area. There’s also the stunning Matsumoto Castle to see – built over 500 years ago and offering panoramic views over the city – so don’t forget your camera.
4* Kai Matsumoto
Open from mid/late April until mid-November, Kamikochi is where you’ll fall head over heels for rural Japan’s great outdoors. For a leisurely hike, follow the path along the beautiful Azusa River – from the serene Taisho Pond to the iconic Myojin Bridge. Experienced mountaineers can also opt for more challenging treks. Ask your Flight Centre Travel Concierge to recommend a hiking trail.
3* Kamikochi Hotel Shirakabaso
Today you’ll be catching the highway bus and heading to peaceful Takayama. Spend today exploring this beautiful mountain city, famed for its skilful woodworking. Your guide will lead you through the city’s World Heritage-listed Old Town as well as explaining its ancient carpentry, you’ll then be free to explore as you wish.
4* Associa Takayama Resort
Often overlooked, Kanazawa is a fascinating city with a delightful teahouse and geisha district. Don’t miss a stroll round Kenrokuen Garden – it’s one of Japan’s most impressive. Depart from Takayama and travel to Inami by private car. Having made a name for itself as Japan’s woodcarving capital, the town is home to over 120 workshops and 300 craftsmen – a great destination to witness the traditional craft. Stroll along Yokamachi Street, glimpsing sculptors at work and admiring the impressive handiwork at the numerous workshops lining the stone-paved street. Afterwards, travel to Ainokura, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed village, surrounded by mountain scenery.
4* Kanazawa Tokyu Hotel
A collection of four hot-spring towns, this is the place to go for an authentic onsen experience.
