Days 2-3
Homer
The journey from Anchorage to Homer is a majestic one – the coast of the Kenai Peninsula promises dramatic glacier and volcano views, as well as the chance to spot beluga whales frolicking in the water. Your time in this quaint city is yours; perhaps watch fishing boats as they dock in the harbour, stroll the charming streets – full of restaurants and art galleries – or explore Kachemak Bay. For those seeking a bit of adventure, this is the ideal way to spend your day – you can hike, kayak or even take a floatplane ride over the water.
Western Bidarka
Days 4-5
Seward
Travel onto Seward, known for Harding Icefield, fjords and calving glaciers. Here you’ll see sea lions, puffins and octopi at the Alaska SeaLife Center, before getting a behind the scenes tour of this impressive facility. You’ll learn all about the crucial marine research that happens here, as well as having the unique opportunity to see the labs. The following day you’ll get to see some of the same marine life in the wild at Kenai Fjords. Keep your eyes peeled for orcas and humpback whales too, and be sure to take plenty of pictures of the vast ice sheets. If you’re feeling energetic, opt to take a coastal hike of the region in the afternoon.
Inn
Days 6-8
Denali National Park
This is where your adventure gets really wild. Upon arrival at this remote national park and reserve you’ll visit the Denali Education Center – part of the trip’s partnership with National Geographic – and learn about the park’s history and culture from the people who work there. Then you’ll head to Eielson Visitor Center the next day for a tour run by the National Parks Service. Keep your eyes peeled for moose, caribou and even grizzly bears as you traverse the rugged landscapes. On your final day you’ll start with a hike before having the afternoon at your leisure; perhaps watch a dog-sled demonstration, or take to the skies for a bit of flightseeing.
Perch Resort
