The world’s most Instagrammed destinations

January 29, 2015 by Lauren Burvill

The Golden Gate Bridge? Sydney Harbour? Ha Long Bay? While these may be some of our favourite sights to snap, the 300 million users on Instagram have other ideas.

Last month everyone’s favourite #filter social media released a definitive list of the most Instagrammed destinations of 2014. While much of the list is an easy guess, there are some surprise additions (Instagram loves baseball?), and notable favourites missing (Eiffel Tower? Non?)

Disneyland in Anaheim (California), USA

Coming in at number one, the happiest place on earth is also the most Instagrammed. The most popular scene to shoot? The tea cups of course.

Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, USA

Dodger’s fans sure must love their Instagram, with Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles coming in at number two on the list. It even beat out…

The classic landmark of the city that never sleeps, New York’s Times Square comes as no surprise to this list. If anything, it’s strange that it’s not higher.

Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand

Never heard of it? You should. Siam Paragon is the place to shop in Asia. The mega mall boasts over 250 shops as well as a 16 screen Cineplex and Southeast Asia’s largest aquarium.

Shaking off its drab post-Soviet aesthetic, Gorky Park in Moscow is now an urban paradise complete with lounge chairs, ping-pong tables and rides. Its Instagram success though may also come down to one simple factor – free Wi-Fi.

Musee de Lourve, Paris, France

The first and only destination in Europe, the Musee de Louvre beat out the city’s most famous icon the Eiffel Tower, to come in at number six on the list.

Another addition from Russia, the city’s beautiful Red Square is an Instagram dream with the colourful Saint Basil’s Cathedral needing #nofilter.

Madison Square Garden in New York, USA

The second entry for New York, Madison Square Garden was a popular place for Instagram users last year. Although with shows performed there by Billy Joel, The Who, Stevie Wonder and more, it comes as no surprise.

Yankee Stadium in New York, USA

Another stadium? Baseball fans really do love their Instagram.

The world's largest aquarium at Dubai Mall

The one and only landmark from the Middle East, The Dubai Mall is one of the world’s largest shopping malls. Among its many Instagram-able features are a 25 metre wide multi-media dome, an Olympic size ice-rink and the world’s largest aquarium featuring over 33,000 living animals.
