Back in June Nicola Hughes followed our first twitter event, Trav Tweet Up, online from her home in Manchester. Her comedy tweet pic , shown below, won her the grand prize of 7 nights accommodation in Phuket. She has just returned from her amazing trip to Thailand and has kindly written us this report to share with us what she got up to.
My boyfriend and I wanted an epic holiday – one that we’d never forget. We sat looking at various travel brochures, globes and world maps. My only stipulations were that the holiday should be; good value for money, a cultural experience and preferably have elephants as a native animal. Thailand immediately sprung to mind but Andrew (my lesser half!) campaigned for America. After more research, and realising he’d be paying for almost the entirety of the trip, he soon agreed that Thailand was a far better option.
As an avid user of many social media platforms, including twitter, during our hunt for holidays I promptly began to follow several travel firms including the Flight Centre. I’d always known Flight Centre to be good for travel deals, so was hoping to bag a bargain with one of their Flash Sales. I was struck with luck when I spotted their tweet saying they were running a competition to win accommodation in Thailand. I was struck with even more luck when I won the competition with my entry of a photo of me joining in the Tweet Up online (a brilliant use of social media by them, which I thoroughly applauded).
So after the series of more than fortunate events, our epic adventure began. Starting in Bangkok, moving down to Koh Phi Phi, and landing up with seven nights in Phuket at the wonderful Kee Resort, courtesy of Flight Centre and the innovative Travel Tweet Up. Andrew and I cannot thank Flight Centre enough. Here’s some photos to share the immense fun we had. It really was an experience like no other, one which I’ll never forget and will recommend to everyone.
Here I am tucking into some street food in the centre of China Town, Bangkok. This whole crab and noodles cost the equivalent of £4.

The sea view from our balcony in Phuket (you can see the beach in real life -the camera is just a bit rubbish!)
On Koh Phi Phi beach – aka paradise.

An example of just some of the amazing seafood we experienced in Thailand.
Us at the rooftop Sirocco Bar in Bangkok – famous for its amazing views of the city and exquisite bar – also where part of the Hangover 2 was filmed. Make sure you go on a dry evening though so that the balcony is open – it was shut when we were there so we couldn’t appreciate the full view.
