Singapore Flyer

Vertigo sufferers may wish to look away but one of Singapore's most popular attractions is the towering Singapore Flyer. Standing a dizzying 165-metres tall – or a staggering 42 storeys – this massive structure remains the world's largest ferris wheel.

Built over a period of three years and completed in 2008, the Singapore Flyer is taller than the London Eye. Featuring 28 individual capsules each holding 28 passengers, the Singapore Flyer takes 30 minutes to make a complete rotation and boasts spectacular views over Singapore's Marina Bay.

Situated along Marina Promenade, motor racing enthusiasts can enjoy bird's-eye views of Singapore's famous Formula One Street Circuit, as the Singapore Flyer is located directly beside the straight between turns 21 and 22.

Though it hasn't always been popular with the locals, the Singapore Flyer remains a great way to enjoy sweeping views over Singapore. One of the best times to enjoy a ride is at dusk, with the sun slowly setting on the Lion City as the soft glow of thousands of office lights shine their luminance over the surrounding bayside area.

For an even more dramatic flourish, visitors can even enjoy full butler service sky dining. Indulge in a romantic four-course dinner amid unsurpassed views as the wheel sweeps through the Singapore night sky.

If sky-high dining doesn't suit your itinerary, there are plenty more opportunities to eat on the ground. The Singapore Flyer is located in the midst of a popular retail and dining precinct, where you can enjoy a range of casual dining options and purchase souvenirs of your trip. There are even a number of tours which depart from the nearby Marina Promenade, one of which includes a lap around the majority of Singapore's impressive Formula One circuit.

Getting to the Singapore Flyer involves a simple process of taking the city's Mass Rapid Transport system to The Promenade Station on the Circle Line. From there, the ferris wheel is a mere five-minute stroll and its sheer size makes it very hard to miss! Buses and taxis are also available, but for a more dramatic entry, consider travelling on one of the water taxis which glide across Marina Bay.
