South Australia Holidays

Adelaide Hills, wildlife and wine

Famous for its wine regions and the produce that stems from them, South Australia is where Down Under really shines. Foodies will adore state capital Adelaide, packed with world-class restaurants, food trucks and and a vibrant bar scene. There's no mistaking this is Australia's vineyard capital; over 200 cellar doors can be found within an hours' drive, including the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. Love nature? From the dramatic cliffs of the Great Australian Bight to the burnt red sands of the Outback, wildlife encounters abound. Swim with dolphins in Glenelg, whale watch in Victor Harbor and get up close with sea lions in the Eyre Peninsula. And then there’s Kangaroo Island – where koalas, echidnas and of course kangaroos are the main residents. Or, if it’s rugged landscapes you’re looking for, it doesn’t get any wilder than the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park – home to nature’s grand amphitheatre: Wilpena Pound.

When to Go

When to Go to South Australia

We love the ‘Festival State’ all year-round – there’s always something to do here, from food and wine celebrations to concerts. Generally, you can expect hot and dry weather in the north and cooler temperatures in the southern coastal regions, including Adelaide. The state capital is officially the driest due to its long, hot summers but still receives up to 540mm of rainfall each year. Fear not though – with the rain comes the chance to see even greater numbers of wildlife around the mainland and on Kangaroo Island.
