Discover more of Australia in the South
Away from the buzzing east coast and tropical north, South Australia is where Australia’s wild side really shines. From the rugged coastline of the Great Australian Bight to the burnt earth of the Outback, the region offers wildlife encounters at almost every corner: swim with dolphins in Glenelg; spot sea lions in the Eyre Peninsula; watch for whales in Victor Harbour; and keep your eyes peeled for wallabies and emus within Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park.
And then of course there’s Kangaroo Island, a virtual zoo without fences. With a third of it dedicated to being a conservation park, you can expect to spot sea lions, koalas, echnidnas and the native Kangaroo Island kangaroo, which is smaller and darker than those found on the mainland. Remember that iconic Australia image of the kangaroos on the beach? This is where you can see that snapshot in the flesh.
