Cruise Styles: First Time Cruising

At first glance anyone who hasn’t cruised before could feel that the prospect of finding the right cruise holiday or even establishing if cruising is the type of holiday that would suit them, seems very complicated. Where to go, which type of ship, departing the UK or flying to the start destination, how old will people be on the cruise and will the cruise ship have facilities for children, how formal will it be etc etc. The reality however is very different.

Many cruise lines are now able to provide “taster cruises" that typically last for two or three days and these are a fantastic way to experience the cruising phenomena and find out if you like it or not.

We know from our experience that if we sell a cruise holiday that is tailored to the needs of our clients that the chances are that once tried customers will be hooked and come back to do it again, probably for a longer duration.

The number of destinations to choose from is vast, and you can now cruise to virtually anywhere in the world. The price you pay for a cruise holiday is equally as endless as cruise prices range from under £500 up to £35,000 if you do an around the world (6* cruising) option, and everything in-between!

What’s important to remember for any first time cruiser is the price you pay will include all of your food, flights (if applicable), accommodation and entertainment.

Unlike a hotel stay, with a cruise you will also experience a different view from your room each day as you travel around from destination to destination and you‘ll only have to unpack once!

The amount of time you spend off the ship is for you to decide, you don’t have to get off at all if you don’t want to. However some cruise itineraries will allow you to spend more time ashore than on the ship itself, so its totally up to you what you would prefer.

The quality of the service and the food you’ll be provided with on your cruise are exceptional and you can expect excellent hospitality across the range of cruise lines.

The dress codes have relaxed today as well when compared to the days of black tie and cocktail dresses. Some will be more formal than others so you need to choose the one that suits you and pack accordingly, just as you would with any other type of holiday.

There’s no time to get bored on a cruise holiday. You will find plenty to keep you occupied from the minute you walk aboard. Take in a show, grab a drink at one of the many bars or eat at fine restaurants. Drop the kids off at the kids clubs and attend one of the lectures to improve your knowledge.

Practice your golf or rock climbing abilities after keeping trim in the gym. Relax afterwards at the Spa or treat yourself to massage before you hit the nightclub. Or you might prefer to do nothing and relax at one of the many leisure areas on board, it really is up to you!

There is no problem with seasickness either as many itineraries you’ll cruise will be on calm waters like the Caribbean or the Mediterranean but if the wind should pick up the stabilisers that all new ships have will take over and keep you feeling well. Full medical facilities are available with fully qualified medical staff at hand to assist you should you get any motion sickness problems.

In terms of your accommodation at a basic level this will include an en suite bathroom/shower room, television, hairdryer and possibly balcony views. The more money you pay, the more space you are provided. A suite will give you living accommodation as well as your sleeping accommodation.

With many families now choosing to cruise the age of the average cruiser has fallen dramatically over the last few years. Some cruises are designed for the family while other cruises can offer a more formal approach. It is true to say whatever your needs there will be a cruise that suits you from price to the level of luxury you require. Your own butler perhaps?

The best time to cruise is now. The British market is the second largest market in the world and only the USA has more people taking cruises and as a result there are more cruise lines serving the British market offering all year round options. Generally the cruise lines offer itineraries at a time when the weather can be best guaranteed in the destination. BUT ANYTHING’S POSSIBLE. Just speak to one of our experienced cruise consultants who will be able to offer you lots of advice and destination choices.
