Cruise Styles: Family Cruising

With so many cruise ships to choose from how do you find the right cruise ship for you and your kids? The vast majority of cruise lines now offer excellent programmes for kids, and many of our clients now complain they never see their kids once on-board!

Cruise ships provide a rather safe environment for families, with the newer and larger cruise ships offering a vast range of family friendly facilities. The excursion programmes are also designed with kids in mind and on shore excursions are designed with special daytime itineraries. The Kids clubs offer all day activities, normally until 10.00pm at night, along with babysitting services.

There are three types of family accommodation available, which vary depending on your budget. The most expensive option would be a family suite, which typically have two bedrooms and bathrooms and can be configured to accommodate up to 8 passengers. The next option would be the standard cabins with adjoining rooms, which have been specifically designed, in the newer ships, with families in mind. The final option would be to use a triple or quad cabin where all guests use the same room. These cabins offer pull-down beds that ‘disappear’ during the day; the cabin steward will do this for you and also make the bed in the evening.

The cabin you choose is important as we all like to stay in a nice room, however with so much to do on board and on land, the amount of time you spend in the cabin should be taken into consideration when making your decision.
