Cruise Lines: Hurtigruten
From the magnificent Fjords to the awesome ice-filled bays of Antarctica, Hurtigruten is renowned for its comprehensive collection of voyages to remote, beautiful and dramatic coastlines from the far north to the distant south. With over 120 years of maritime experience and a fleet of sixteen intimate ships, the voyages go beyond the traditional cruise, allowing closer encounters with environments, wildlife and people along the shorelines near and far.
Each ship has a distinct style and character and no two journeys will ever be the same as the changing seasons, climate, flora and fauna. Many of the ports of call are tranquil hamlets on tiny islands whose inhabitants depend for their very existence on the Hurtigruten ships to bring the communities essential supplies and reunite families and friends.
Onboard the ships you will find comfortable lounges giving unequalled views. There is no dressing up for dinner – no fuss, no frenzy. You will find open seating for the buffets at breakfast and lunchtime to create a relaxed atmosphere. Menus are planned around fresh, seasonal ingredients and take advantage of local produce.
All of the ships except for the older, smaller vessels have a lift, a library to really get away from it. The newer additions to the fleet have Jacuzzis and a fitness room. Lecture theatres and meeting rooms are available on most ships, creating an ideal environment in which to listen to a guest lecturer.
Occasionally there may be a local choir or band in one of the lounges for an evening, but there is no organised entertainment programme to detract from the gentle flow of the voyage.
Cabins vary in size and location; outside cabins are normally on the higher decks and feature a picture window while the lower decks have portholes. There is also a choice of suites to enable you to select a cabin with balcony or bay window and some have bath tub/Jacuzzi.
