About Flights to Hawaii

Flights from the UK to Hawaii disembark in the state’s capital at Honolulu International Airport. From London to Honolulu, flights usually take around 18 hours or more depending on the stopover. Most stopovers take place in the USA or Asia, with common stopover cities including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seoul and Tokyo. Airlines that fly from the UK to the Hawaii include:

Airport Transfers

Honolulu International Airport is located 16 kilometres from the main tourist area of Waikiki Beach and 9.5 kilometres from Downtown Honolulu. Most airport transfers are commonly done so via shuttle buses, which usually take travellers direct to their accommodation. The airport is also serviced by 3 public buses which usually operate every 30 minutes and reach various stops around Honolulu. For travel by taxi, expect to pay around £26 (or more, depending on traffic) to reach Waikiki, plus tip.

Useful Information

As a state of the USA, British passport holders do not need a visa to holiday in Hawaii for up to 90 days, under the USA’s visa waiver program. While you might not need to apply for a visa, you will need to gain prior authorisation through the country’s Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, commonly referred to as an ‘ESTA.’ Those who are not approved by this online system prior to their flight may run the risk of being turned away at the airport. It’s also worth to keep in mind that while Waikiki Beach and the island of Oahu are great places to spend your Hawaii holiday, don’t forget to explore some of the state’s other main islands which include Maui, Oahu, Kauai, the Big Island, Molokai and Lanai.

Getting Around

Getting around Hawaii and it’s islands is best done by plane or boat, depending on your time frame. For the quickest route, Hawaii Airlines operates a number of domestic flights each day. If you’ve got time to spare, why not take the scenic route and enjoy a cruise around the Hawaii Islands? On the islands themselves, hire a car offers the most flexibility when it comes to getting around and seeing the sights. While the islands do have bus services, O’ahu is the only one that has an extensive network.

Top Attractions

Hawaii’s top attractions are of course, centred around the island’s natural assets. Waikiki Beach, made iconic by Beach Boys lyrics, is considered one of the state’s most famous beaches, although the locals will tell you that their a more scenic spots to be found in Maui, especially if you’re looking to catch some waves. Other popular spots in Hawaii include Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head on Oahu and Hawai’i Volcano National Park, located on the Big Island.
