When booking flights from the UK to America there are a wealth of options. Generally speaking, most flights disembark at the country’s main international hubs of Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, John F. Kennedy Airport in New York or O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. One of the most common direct flights to the USA is London to New York, which takes around 7.5 hours and is operated by 11 airlines. While there are plenty of direct flights from the UK to America, depending on the destination and airline, other flights may include a stopover at JFK Airport or other ports of call including Paris, Vancouver and Montreal.

Airlines that fly to America

Airlines that fly from the UK to America include:

American International Airports:

As an incredibly spread out country, the USA boasts a large number of international airports. The country’s main international hubs include:

  • John F Kennedy International Airport, New York
  • O’Hare International Airport, Chicago
  • Los Angeles International Airport
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
  • San Francisco International Airport
  • Denver International Airport

Airport Transfers

Most of America’s international airports are serviced by a wide range of transport options including trains, public buses, private shuttle buses and car hire. Taxis are also incredibly common, and depending on the city and the location of your accommodation, can be quite reasonably priced. From John F Kennedy Airport in New York, the quickest way to reach Midtown is via train which takes approximately 50 minutes. Taxis at the airport are also common but depending on traffic and the location of your New York accommodation, can take a while and be costly.

Useful Information

British passport holders are eligible for the USA’s visa waiver program, allowing you to visit the States without a visa for 90 days. While you might not need to apply for a visa, you will need to gain prior authorisation through the country’s Electronic System for Travel Authorisation, commonly referred to as an ‘ESTA.’ Those who are not approved by this online system prior to their flight may run the risk of being turned away at the airport. It is also important to note that while travel insurance should always be a priority, it is especially important to purchase before travelling to America. The USA’s health care system is incredibly expensive so in order to avoid a big medical bill, it is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance before your trip.

Getting Around

Few can resist the promise of the great open road in America. A bucket-list trip for many of us, a road trip across the states is one of those once-in-a-lifetime trips you’ll just never forget. If you haven’t quite got the time to dedicate to driving cross-country, the country’s incredible amount of domestic flights will help you jam-pack more destinations into your itinerary. And then of course there are the speedy yet scenic routes to consider; a scenic railway journey down the east coast, a coach tour of the west, or a cruise around Alaska or the islands of Hawaii. The options are endless.

Top Attractions

Flights to America are your ticket to a huge range of attractions. Even if you stayed for an entire year you still wouldn’t see it all. For all of it’s iconic cities and beautiful towns in between, the USA’s most popular attraction is one of fantasy - Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. If natural attractions are more your style then you can take your pick from the Grand Canyon to Niagara Falls, to the glaciers of Alaska and the beaches of Hawaii.

Book a flight to the USA and you’re going to want to make it a holiday to remember.
