About Flights to Cape Town

Flights to Cape Town from the UK disembark at Cape Town International Airport and have an approximate flight time of 11 hours and 30 minutes direct from London. Depending on the airline, some flights may involve a stopover, often in Johannesburg. As the second busiest airport in South Africa and the third in Africa, flights from London to Cape Town International Airport run regularly.

Airlines that fly to Cape Town

Airlines that fly from the UK to Cape Town include:

Airport Transfers

Cape Town International Airport is located 20 kilometres from the city and is serviced by buses, private shuttle buses, taxis and car hire. The quickest option to travel from the aiport to the CBD is via the MyCiti shuttle service which takes around 20 to 55 minutes to travel from the airport to the Civic Centre in central Cape Town, depending on traffic. For more flexibility, consider hiring a car from the airport. Your Flight Centre consultant can arrange your car hire in advance so your car will be available to pick up upon arrival.

Useful Information

British passport holders do not need a visa in order to holiday in South Africa for up to 90 days. While South Africa has a large number of official languages, the most commonly spoken in Cape Town are Afrikaan and English. As the second largest city in South Africa, Cape Town does experience crime, however the city is commonly regarded as much safer than Johannesburg. It is advised to err on the side of caution though and avoid certain areas at night. A great way to visit the city’s townships safely is with the help of a local guide.

Getting Around

The transport options in Cape Town include train, bus, car hire and taxis. While most locals drive, the roads can be a little chaotic with road rules loosely followed and dangerous drivers an issue. To play it a bit safer, Cape Town’s public bus system is a good option, particularly if you’re looking to travel from the city centre along the Atlantic coast. The city’s metro train is also another option, although services rarely run past 6pm on weekdays. For a safe and comfortable trip it’s recommend to opt for a first-class cabin train ticket over economy.

Top Attractions

Cape Town’s main tourist attractions tend to focus on the city’s incredible natural landscape. The city’s standout feature is of course Table Mountain, an iconic landmark of Cape Town. The coastline is also a must-see on any Cape Town holiday with popular beaches including Clifton Beach and the penguin friendly Boulders Beach. For more wildlife sightings, Seal Island, as the name suggests, is a great place to spot fur seals while Robben Island is where you can learn about the city’s tumultuous history at the island’s museum.
